Watch out for these penny stocks locked in the upper circuit on May 23

During Monday's opening bell, Indian markets were flat despite strong volatility, mirroring mixed global trends.

During Monday's opening bell, Indian markets were flat despite strong volatility, mirroring mixed global trends. On the domestic front, the auto index climbed 1 per cent to boost the broader markets, while metal stocks fell 8 per cent in early trading. The market's performance comes after the government announced an excise duty drop of Rs 8 per litre on petrol and Rs 6 per litre on diesel. 

 

S&P BSE Sensex jumped by 474 points to 54,800.97 at 11.40 am. S&P BSE Midcap index also scaled up by 201 points and trades at 22,708.15 levels. S&P BSE Smallcap jumped up by 134 points and trades at 26,485.37 levels. Sensex Top Gainers include Maruti Suzuki (4.12 per cent), Larsen & Toubro (2.82 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.81 per cent), Hindustan Unilever (2.35 per cent), and Induslnd Bank (2.21 per cent).  

  

Nifty 50 index mounted by 108 points and is trading at 16,374.80 levels. Bank Nifty also amplified by 469 points at a level of 34,745.90. The top gainers on Nifty 50 are Maruti Suzuki (4.23 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.91 per cent), Larsen & Toubro (2.74 per cent), Hindustan Unilever (2.32 per cent), and Apollo Hospital (2.23 per cent). 

  

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 1,265.41 crore on May 19, while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 2,148.95 crore.
