Watch out for these penny stocks locked in the upper circuit on August 8

The barometer index S&P BSE Sensex increased 320 points to trade at 58,708 levels at 11.31 am.

The major equity indices saw just a small increase in the morning trading. While IT, pharma & healthcare equities declined, demand increased for auto, bank, and financial shares. The shares of KRBL, the company that makes India Gate Basmati Rice, climbed as a result of increased exports. The rupee fell to 79.45 against the dollar as US Dollar index strengthens.  

  

The barometer index S&P BSE Sensex increased 320 points to trade at 58,708 levels at 11.31 am. S&P BSE Midcap index is currently trading at 24,528, up only 50 points. While, the S&P BSE Smallcap index rose 98 points to trade at 27,703 levels. The leading gainers are power, metal, and capital goods, each rising close to a per cent whereas telecom, as well as information technology, are the only indices trading in the red.  

  

Nifty index trades at 17,477 levels, climbing 79 points. Likewise, Bank Nifty surged 168 points to trade at 37,088 levels. The Top Gainers are NTPC (2.41 per cent), Coal India (2.35 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.34 per cent), HDFC Bank (1.64 per cent), and Hindalco Industries (2.12 per cent).  

  

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 1,605.81 crore on August 5 while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth Rs 495.94 crore.    

  

Meanwhile, the stock market will remain shut on August 9 (Tuesday) on the account of Muharram.
