Watch out for these penny stocks locked in the upper circuit on August 11

The barometer index S&P BSE Sensex zoomed 585 points to trade at 59,403 levels at 10.38 am.

Both Sensex, as well as Nifty 50, rose by at least 161 points during the opening bell on Thursday, signalling a positive start to trade for the Indian markets. Positive global cues improved the mood of the markets. Sensex and Nifty 50 experienced widespread purchasing with IT firms outperforming. As markets now anticipate Federal Reserve to hike rates by 50 basis points in September, Asian indices opened in the green, driven by a strong rally in the US markets.  

  

The barometer index S&P BSE Sensex zoomed 585 points to trade at 59,403 levels at 10.38 am. S&P BSE Midcap index trades at 24,746, up by 222 points. S&P BSE Smallcap index too surged 146 points to trade at 27,801 levels. In terms of sectoral indices, on Sensex, the finance, IT, Bankex, consumer durables, capital goods, and realty index surged around 1.3 per cent each.  

  

Nifty index trades at 17,691 levels with gains of 156 points. Likewise, Bank Nifty rallied 590 points to trade at 38,878 levels. The Top Gainers on Nifty are Tech Mahindra (2.66 per cent), IndusInd Bank (2.46 per cent), Axis Bank (2.44 per cent), Titan (2.08 per cent), and Wipro (1.98 per cent).  

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 1,061.88 crore on August 10 while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth Rs 768.45 crore.
