Tata Power & Tata Motors to commission Indias largest solar carport in Pune

In line with Tata Group’s philosophy to promote green manufacturing, Tata Motors and Tata Power today jointly inaugurated India’s largest grid-synchronised, behind-the-metre solar carport at Tata Motors’ car plant in Chikhali (Pune).

The 6.2 megawatts peak (MWp) solar carport deployed by Tata Power will generate 86.4 lakh kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity per year and is estimated to reduce 7,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually and 1.6 lakh tonnes over its lifecycle.

Tata Motors had entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Tata Power on August 31, 2020. Despite the COVID-19 challenges, both companies successfully managed to develop this massive carport infrastructure in a period of 9.5 months.

Tata Power comes with a successful background in executing multiple large solar solutions, including the world’s largest rooftop (16 MW) at a single location in Amritsar and a 2.67 MW at project Cochin International Airport. In addition,  the company has installed a rooftop plant at a CCI stadium in Mumbai with 820.8 kWp capacity and 1.4MW floating solar plant for Tata Chemicals at Nellore. Besides this, Tata Power is also carrying out an extensive pan-India residential rooftop programme.

On Friday, the stock of Tata Power Company Limited closed at Rs 121.40, down by 2.02 per cent or 2.50 per share as against a 0.04 per cent gain in the benchmark index.
