Market WRAP: Nifty, Sensex end flat; PSU Banks and metals outperform, IT slips

About 1,280 stocks are advancing while 695 stocks are declining, thus indicating strength in the broader market.

The benchmark indices NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex 30 have closed on a flat note on a volatile day. NSE Nifty 50 index recovered about 100 points from its day’s low to close at 18,700 levels.

TCS jumped 1.75 per cent ahead of its Q2 FY22-23 results. Axis Bank, HDFC Life, and Maruti Suzuki also joined the top gainers’ list.

The broader indices witnessed a good recovery from their day’s low on a volatile trading day. Nifty slipped 0.43 per cent but managed to close at 17,250 while Sensex plummeted 200 points.

At market close on Friday, the markets ended the session on a flat note, owing to mixed global cues.  

At the day’s end, Sensex settled at 58,803.33, up by 36.74 points or 0.06 per cent whereas Nifty 50 closed at 17,539.45, down by 3.35 points or 0.02 per cent.

Investors eagerly wait for the US non-farm payroll data, which is set to release later in the evening.

Indices closed on a mixed note as Nifty slipped 3 points whereas Sensex gained 36 points. Profit booking was seen in Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap as they plunged 0.36 per cent & 0.17 per cent, respectively.

The FIIs bought equity worth Rs 1,605.81 crore on Friday (August 5) while the DIIs sold equity net worth of Rs 495.94 crore. Metal, power, and energy stocks are seen outperforming the markets today.
