Market breadth was firmly negative, with 2,254 stocks declining compared to 211 stocks advancing, underscoring the bearish momentum across sectors.

Market breadth remained firmly positive, with 2,083 stocks advancing against 699 declining on the NSE.

Tuesday's market is expected to have a slight positive opening as indicated by the SGX Nifty, which shows a small positive start for the broader index. The SGX Nifty initially opened the session at 18,689 and is currently up by 15.5 points.

At the time of the closing bell on Thursday, the markets eroded the day’s gains, ahead of the monthly expiry, dragged by IT, FMCG, and pharma stocks.  

 At day end, Sensex closed at 58,774.72, losing 310.71 points or 0.53 per cent whereas Nifty 50 was at 17,522.45, down by 82.50 points or 0.47 per cent.
