Sundaram Mutual: 25 years & counting!

Sundaram Asset Management Company Ltd completed 25 years as a corporate entity and hence, it’s celebrating its silver jubilee today.

Sundaram Asset Management Company Ltd is a 100 per cent subsidiary of Sundaram Finance, one of the premier NBFCs in the country, which has a history of 67 years of serving customers in the areas of commercial vehicle and private car finance as well as retail deposits.

The journey

In the past 25 years, Sundaram Mutual underwent multiple avatars and intermingled with two joint ventures – first as Sundaram Newton till 2002 and then, as Sundaram BNP Paribas from 2006 to 2010.

In the course, it developed a solid retail customer base with over 35 lakh customers having invested in its schemes. And, along with its subsidiaries, the assets under management (AUM) of the Group exceed Rs 40,000 crore.

In its latest strategic action, the Group reiterated its commitment to the asset management business, striving to provide a full bouquet of wealth creation products to the retail customer base, by announcing the acquisition of Principal Mutual Fund. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals. Principal Mutual, as it currently stands, should add about 5 lakh customers and about Rs 7,500 crore in the AUM to Sundaram Mutual.
