Stocks that eroded shareholder value

The market has reversed its trend in Thursday’s trade and all the major losers of Wednesday are topping the chart in Thursday’s trade. Jet Airways, in fact, has more than doubled in Thursday’s trade alone. The stock market has started to show a lot of volatility in the last few days. After Sensex and Nifty 50 breaching 40,000 and 12,000 mark, respectively post-election results, the indices are now below those levels. Nonetheless, a major fall is coming in the broader market. Since the start of the month till June 19, the frontline indices have fallen by around 3 per cent while the broader market has fallen by 4 per cent and more.

There are some companies and groups that are being battered badly than others and investors have lost most of the money in these companies and groups. Therefore, we studied the companies that have lost the market capitalisation most since the start of this month till June 19, 2019. We have also studied the companies where shareholders have lost most since the start of the month.
