At 11.45 am on Thursday, the core equity indices i.e., Sensex and Nifty 50 were trading higher by 1.30 per cent each after reaching their day’s high of 1.57 per cent. This surge in their levels comes after Federal Reserve Chairman finally hiked the funds' rates by 50 basis points on Wednesday.

Fed Chairman also made clear that it is not planning to hike the rates by 75 basis points in the upcoming meeting in June.

The banks also indicated that they will begin to reduce their asset holding in the $9 trillion balance sheet in a well-planned programme. This will eventually reduce bond holdings by $95 billion a month.

This prompted a relief rally in the US markets as the tech-heavy Nasdaq rose more than 3 per cent with Dow Jones and S&P 500 indices climbing 2.81 per cent & 2.99 per cent, respectively.

The crude oil price also edged higher and was trading at $108.43, up by 0.50 per cent. Besides, the 10-year US bond yields were at 2.94 per cent.

Sensex was at 56,264,25, up by 578.56 points or 1.04 per cent while Nifty was at 16,850.60, up by 173 points or 1.03 per cent from the last trading session.

On BSE, 2,113 shares have advanced, 1083 shares declined whereas 134 shares are unchanged.

The Top Gainers in Nifty 50 pack are Hero MotoCorp, Tech Mahindra, Tata Steel, ONGC, and Infosys. Meanwhile, the top five stocks pulling down the index are Tata Consumer Products, Nestle, Titan Company, UltraTech Cement, and Asian Paints.

BSE Smallcap index is trading at 28,008.27, up by 0.88 per cent. The top gainers in the pack were Future Consumer (up by 10 per cent), Time Technoplast (up by 9.80 per cent), Shanthi Gears, Varroc Engineering, and Meghmani Fintech. Each of these stocks gained more than 7 per cent. Similarly, the Top Losers include Vardhman Textiles, MAS Financial Services, Laxmi Organics, 63 Moons Technologies, and Gokul Agro Products.

All the sectoral indices were trading in the green with IT, metal, PSU, and capital goods sectors trading higher by more than 2 per cent each.
