Sensex zooms 917 points; Titan, ITC, HDFC lead the rally
Erasing the loss caused on the Budget day, Sensex today surged above 917 points and closed at 40,789.38 levels, up by 2.30 per cent while, Nifty ended the trading session at 11,979.65 levels, up by 2.32 per cent.
A number of factors are responsible for this star performance of the Sensex. Budget is now a thing of the past and so, the investors are focussing on financial earnings and global markets. Moreover, the manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for India shot up to 55.3 in January from 52.7 in December, which is nearly at eight-year high.
The top five gainers of S&P BSE Sensex on Tuesday are: Titan-up by 7.55 per cent, ITC-up by 3.85 per cent, HDFC-up by 3.76 per cent, Bajaj Finance-up by 3.58 per cent and Tata Steel-up by 3.55 per cent.
S&P BSE Mid-cap gained 1.37 per cent and closed at 15,498.75 levels while, S&P BSE Small-cap inched up 1.29 per cent and closed at 14,545.51 levels. The top gainers of BSE Small-cap are: SML Isuzu-up by 19.99 per cent, Shilpa Medicare-up by 19.05 per cent and Borosil-up by 17.68 per cent.
Among the sectoral indices, S&P BSE Consumer Durables, S&P BSE Metal and S&P BSE Energy were leading today, which were up by 3.52 per cent, 3.29 per cent and 3.02 per cent, respectively.
