Sensex tanks 300.06 points; IT stocks rally, Nucleus Software zooms 4 per cent

Continuing Monday’s trend, the stocks drifted lower with Sensex tumbling by 300.06 points or 0.79 per cent to close at 37,734.08 levels while Nifty was down by 96.90 points or 0.86 per cent, to close at 11,153.65 levels. 

IT stocks rallied with Infosys attempting to make new highs on an intraday basis at Rs 1,022 per share and TCS closing at an all-time high level of Rs 2,523.55 per share.

IT stocks such as Mindtree Consulting and Nucleus Software dazzled in today's trade by gaining 3.01 per cent and 4 per cent, respectively.

Globally, the European markets attempted to make a comeback from Monday’s fall with FTSE being marginally up by 0.27 per cent, CAC 40 gaining 0.21 per cent and DAX being up by 0.97 per cent. 

Asian markets, except Nikkei, traded in red with Hang Seng sliding by 0.98 per cent and Shanghai slipping by 1.29 per cent whereas, Nikkei inched up by 0.18 per cent.

The top gainers in Sensex included TCS, which went up by 2.48 per cent, HCL Technologies gained by 2.43 per cent, Tech Mahindra strengthened by 2.20 per cent, ICICI Bank was up by 1.04 per cent and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries inched up by 2.21 per cent. 

The top losers in Sensex consisted of L&T that went down by 2.82 per cent, IndusInd Bank slipped by 2.79 per cent, Axis Bank slid by 2.59 per cent, Maruti plunged by 2.83 per cent and ONGC weakened by 2.32 per cent. 

BSE IT index and BSE Healthcare index were the only two sectoral indices that were in green today. BSE Oil & Gas index was the worst-performing index, recording losses of more than 2 per cent. 

Vidhi Specialty Food Ingredients was the top small-cap gainer, followed by HSIL Ltd and Nectar Lifesciences. BSE Small-cap index was down by 1.61 per cent while BSE Mid-cap index slipped by 1.70 per cent. Central Bank of India, Divi's Laboratories Ltd, and Whirlpool were amongst the top mid-cap gainers in today's session.
