Sensex, Nifty makes record highs; broader market outperforms
Even as Sensex and Nifty made record highs on the first day of the week, the broader markets were seen outperforming the key benchmark indices. Sensex managed to inch up by 0.62 per cent and close at 41,859 levels while Nifty managed to close at 12,329 up by 0.59 per cent.
Infosys was the biggest contributor to the key benchmark index gain-Sensex. Infosys gained 4.76 per cent, IndusInd Bank-3.34 per cent, Coal India-3.07 per cent while Gail inched up by 2.83 per cent.
BSE Midcap index gained 0.87 per cent and managed to close at 15,290 while the BSE Small-cap index inched up by 0.95 per cent and closed at 14,282. Small-cap stocks like Redington and Everest industries were the star performers, clocking gain up to 16 per cent each.
BSE Realty index was the top gainers amongst the sectoral indices followed by BSE IT, BSE Telecom, BSE FMCG, BSE Metal and BSE Power. These sectoral indices garnered gains in between 1 per cent running upto 2 per cent with BSE Realty being the best performer.
