Sensex, Nifty gain; IDBI Bank rises 15 per cent, JSW Steel & TATA Steel jumps by 6.71 per cent & 5.34 per cent

Sensex closed Friday’s session up by 254.57 points or 0.64 per cent from Thursday’s close to end the session at 39,982.98 levels while Nifty was up by 82.10 points or 0.70 per cent at 11,762.45 levels.

In today’s trading session, metal and bank stocks turned out to be the major gainers.

In global markets, Asian indices such as Shanghai Index and Hang Seng rose by 0.13 per cent and 0.94 per cent, respectively while Nikkei and KOSPI went down by 0.41 per cent and 0.83 per cent, respectively. European indices such as DAX, FTSE 100, and CAC 40 were seen trading in positive, up by 0.54 per cent, 0.78 per cent and 1.09 per cent, respectively.

The top Sensex gainers included Tata Steel that went up by 5.38 per cent, HDFC Bank gained by 2.55 per cent, Power Grid zoomed by 2.38 per cent, ONGC strengthened by 2.27 per cent while UltraTech Cement rose by 2.23 per cent.

Top Sensex losers consisted of HCL Technologies, which went down by 3.76 per cent, M&M slipped 1.72 per cent, RIL fell by 1.36 per cent, Asian Paints tumbled 1.17 per cent and Nestle India declined by 1.02 per cent.

In the broader markets, BSE Small-Cap index and BSE Mid-Cap index increased by 0.97 per cent and 1.05 per cent, respectively.

Amongst sectoral indices, BSE Metal Index became the best performing sectoral index, gaining by 3.70 per cent; BSE Realty went up by 2.60 per cent, BSE Bankex and Basic Materials gained by 1.95 per cent and 1.80 per cent, respectively while BSE Utilities and BSE Finance rose by 1.61 per cent and 1.41 per cent, respectively.

BSE Energy index was the only loser, which declined by 0.82 per cent.
