Sensex, Nifty decline; Blue Dart jumps 14 per cent, Adani Gas gains 8 per cent

On Friday, amidst volatility in domestic markets, Sensex closed down by 135.78 points or 0.34 per cent to settle at 39614.07 levels while Nifty closed at 11642.40 levels down by 28.40 points or 0.24 per cent.

Shares of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) gained after the company reported a significant increase YoY in its consolidated net profit of Rs 6,025.81 crore gained in Q2FY21.

In global markets, Asian indices such as Shanghai index, Hang Seng, Nikkei and KOSPI tumbled by 1.47 per cent, 1.95 per cent, 1.52 per cent and 2.56 per cent respectively. In European markets, indices such as FTSE 100 and DAX were seen trading in red down by 0.42 per cent and 0.38 per cent respectively while CAC 40 traded flat with a positive bias.

The Indian Rupee ended lower for the second day in a row at 74.11 against the US dollar as compared to yesterday’s close of 73.87. 

Sensex gainers consisted of Tata Steel gaining by 2.27 per cent, NTPC rose by 2.14 per cent, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries gained by 1.97 per cent, Nestle India increased by 1.53 per cent, RIL gained by 1.37 per cent, TCS rose by 1.18 per cent, etc.

Sensex losers made up of Bharti Airtel declining by 3.82 per cent, Maruti Suzuki decreased by 2.45 per cent, HUL declined by 2.32 per cent, Bajaj Finance deceased by 2.13 per cent, ICICI Bank fell by 1.84 per cent, Kotak Mahindra Bank declined by 1.48 per cent, etc.

Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, Realty index was the biggest gainer up by 2.19 per cent while Telecom index was the biggest loser down by 2.37 per cent. BSE SmallCap index closed down by mere 0.03 per cent whereas BSE MidCap index gained by 0.62  per cent.
