Sensex, Nifty close in red; Tata Teleservices gains 9.57 per cent

On Thursday, the domestic benchmark indices closed in the red. The markets remained volatile during today’s trading session as Sensex closed down by 148.82 points or 0.37 per cent to settle at 40,558.49 levels while Nifty ended the session down by 41.20 points or 0.35 per cent to close at 11,896.45 levels.

During today’s trading session, buying was witnessed in the telecom and power sectors while selling was seen in auto, IT, and banks.

On the global front, FTSE fell by 0.49 per cent, CAC 40 declined by 0.47 per cent and DAX decreased by 0.50 per cent. 

Asian indices such as Shanghai index, Hang Seng, KOSPI, and Nikkei plunged by 0.38 per cent, 0.13 per cent, 0.67 per cent, and 0.70 per cent, respectively.

The top gainers in Sensex included NTPC that went up by 3.10 per cent, Bharti Airtel gained by 2.77 per cent, Bajaj Finance strengthened by 2.47 per cent, Axis Bank surged by 1.80 per cent and Tata Steel inched up by 1.50 per cent. 

The top losers in Sensex were IndusInd Bank that went down by 3.10 per cent, ICICI Bank slipped by 1.76 per cent, Infosys slid by 1.58 per cent, Titan Company fell by 1.23 per cent and HDFC Bank weakened by 1.13 per cent. 

Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, the telecom and power index were the biggest gainers, up by 2.53 per cent and 2.05 per cent, respectively. Indices, such as capital goods, utilities, and oil & gas also gained by 1.54 per cent, 1.84 per cent, and 1.28 per cent, respectively.

Meanwhile, indices such as IT, finance, and Bankex became the top three losers, which went down by 0.70 per cent, 0.39 per cent, 0.59, and 0.22 per cent, respectively.

In the broader markets, BSE Small-Cap Index rose by 0.85 per cent while BSE Mid-Cap Index gained by 0.54 per cent.
