Sensex manages to close in green; ICICI Bank, SBI and Bajaj Finance support Sensex stay afloat in green!
On Tuesday, the Sensex and Nifty opened comfortably in green and then slid twice into red zone during the volatile trading session. The Sensex managed to close at 38843.88 levels, up by 44.80 points or 0.12 per cent. Nifty closed at 11472.25 levels, up by 5.80 points or 0.05 per cent. The Mid-Caps and the Small-Caps once again outperformed the markets.
SBI dominated the volatile market on Tuesday. The stock saw investors turn bullish on the counter after Goldman Sachs gave out a buy call increasing the price target in one year.
After the management of Tata Motors announced that it is targeting to become a zero debt company in three years, the company’s stock rallied on Tuesday. The announcement was preceded by the beleaguered automaker declaring that its stock saw profitability at its highest before COVID-19 hit the business prospects. The stock was up by 4.83 per cent in today’s session. Tata Motors was the top Nifty gainer in today’s session.
On the other hand, European markets were trading higher on Tuesday pinning its hopes on trade disputes between US-China getting resolved. DAX gained 0.60 per cent, CAC40 was up by 0.65 per cent and FTSE inched up by 0.15 per cent.
Asian markets were trading mixed with Nikkei up by 1.35 per cent and Hang Send down by 0.26 per cent while Shanghai index slipped 0.36 per cent.
Top Sensex gainers in today’s session were Bajaj Finance up by 4.39 per cent, SBI jumped by 3.28 per cent, Tech Mahindra gained 2.21 per cent, Asian Paints inched up by 1.92 per cent, Bajaj Finserv strengthened by 1.62 per cent, etc.
Top Sensex losers in today’s session were NTPC sliding by 1.61 per cent, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries fell by 1.55 per cent, Nestle India slipped by 1.48 per cent, Tata Steel dropped by 1.26 per cent, Larsen & Toubro losing by 1.13 per cent, etc.
Midcaps were clear winners in today’s session with BSE Midcap index gaining 0.51 per cent. BSE Smallcap index was up by 0.11 per cent. Adani Enterprises, Max Financial Services, LIC Housing Finance and Adani Power were the top Midcap gainers. Allcargo Logistics, Selan Exploration Technology, HEG, Hikal Ltd and Loapala RG Ltd were the top Smallcap gainers.
BSE Bankex along with the BSE Auto index and BSE Consumer Durable index were the only sectoral indices in green by recording gains of 1.23 per cent, 0.48 per cent and 0.30 per cent respectively. BSE Telecom index was flat. BSE Power index dropped by 0.22 per cent.
BSE Oil & Gas index slipped by 0.26 per cent. BSE Realty index was down by 2.09 per cent while BSE Metal index was down by 0.53 per cent.
