Sensex jumps 230 points; Tata Motors top Nifty gainer, Dish TV locks in at upper circuit
In what proved to be an encouraging day of trading for investors, the Sensex jumped by more than 230 points or 0.59 per cent to close at 39073.92 levels. Nifty managed to close at 11549.60 levels, up by 77.35 points or by 0.67 per cent.
The shares of two-wheeler manufacturing companies rallied on Wednesday after the markets sensed that the GST could be reduced for the vehicles, which may lead to increase in demand for the products offered by the major two-wheeler companies. Hero MotoCorp and Bajaj Auto outperformed the markets gaining 6.43 per cent and 2.42 per cent respectively.
Tata Motors continued its outperformance from the previous session. Its stock skyrocketed by 8.54 per cent in today’s session.
Moving on to European markets that were trading in green as investors attempted to review expectations for loose monetary policy. DAX was up by 0.71 per cent, CAC 40 gained 0.41 per cent and FTSE increased by 0.02 per cent.
Asian markets were mostly trading down with Nikkei slipping 0.03 per cent, Shanghai sliding by 1.30 per cent. Hang Seng was up by 0.02 per cent.
Top Sensex gainers in today’s session were IndusInd Bank jumping 5.93 per cent, RIL up by 2.63 per cent, Axis Bank strengthening by 2.58 per cent, Kotak Mahindra Bank increasing by 2.49 per cent, Bajaj Auto gaining by 2.42 per cent, etc.
Top Sensex losers in today’s session were Bharti Airtel down by 2.66 per cent, Ultratech Cement sliding by 2.29 per cent, Asian Paints dropping by 1.50 per cent, Maruti Suzuki slipping by 1.46 per cent, etc.
The BSE Small-Cap index outperformed the key benchmark index, gaining by 0.69 per cent. BSE Mid-Cap index was up by 0.38 per cent. Endurance Technology, RBL Bank and AB Capital were the top Mid-Cap gainers in today’s trade. TGC Sraac Ltd, Indostar Capital, Dhanlaxmi Bank and Gabriel were amongst the top Small-Cap gainers.
BSE Power Index was down by 0.05 per cent. BSE Metal Index was up by 0.51 per cent while BSE Oil & Gas index inched up by 0.53 per cent. BSE Auto Index and BSE Bankex gained 1.50 per cent each. BSE IT index was up by 1.02 per cent. BSE Telecom index slid by more than 2 per cent. BSE Realty Index gained 0.89 per cent. BSE Healthcare index was down by 0.08 per cent.
