Sensex closes in green; buzzing stock Bharat Electronics jumps by over 9 per cent

Today's trading session ended with Sensex closing in green, up by 177.72 points or 0.50 per cent at 36,021.42 while Nifty gained by 55.65 points or 0.53 per cent to settle at the level of 10,607.35.

At a global level, positive news about the development of a potential Coronavirus vaccine and key economic data from US and China surpassing expectations kept the momentum upwards in equity markets. European indices such as FTSE 100, DAX and CAC 40 were seen trading lower by 0.72 per cent, 0.57 per cent and 1.03 per cent respectively.

Sensex winners included Bharti Airtel up by 4.05 per cent, Bajaj Auto rallying by 2.52 per cent, TCS increasing by 1.88 per cent, Titan Company gaining by 1.69 per cent, HCL Technologies rising by 1.61 per cent, RIL up by 1.53 per cent, Axis Bank gaining by 1.17 per cent, etc. Sensex losers consisted of IndusInd Bank declining by 1.50 per cent, Tata Steel dropping by 1.49 per cent, HDFC Bank decreasing by 1.42 per cent, Bajaj Finance dipping by 1.24 per cent, Bajaj Finserv falling by 0.63 per cent, Maruti Suzuki down by 0.56 per cent, etc.

Amongst BSE sectoral indices, the biggest gainer was Telecom index, up by 3.45 per cent while Metal index was the biggest loser, dipping by 0.51 per cent. BSE small index rose by 0.47 per cent and BSE mid-cap index increased by 0.56 per cent.
