10 year Challenge: Winners and Losers

Nidhi Jani 0 3158 Article rating: 5.0

You may have stumbled upon the ‘10-year Challenge’ on social media where participants posted two pictures of themselves – one taken 10 years ago and one taken recently. While the initial intent was to just have fun and reminisce about the past; the exercise soon became a metric to assess how aging affected different individuals. We took the concept and applied it to stocks whose present market cap is over Rs. 1,000 crore.

FM addresses job creation in the Union Budget 2019

DSIJ Intelligence 0 1854 Article rating: 4.8

The interim Union Budget 2019 attempted to alleviate the unemployment crisis plaguing India to a certain extent. Ironically, a report was leaked just yesterday, allegedly revealing that the unemployment rate in India stood at a 45-year high of 6.1 per cent during 2017-18! The government refuted this by stating the study conducted in December 2018 was yet to be approved. This has created much speculation and controversy.

Nifty FMCG bounces from 200-day EMA

Vinayak Gangule 0 2549 Article rating: 5.0

The index after touching 200-day EMA bounces back and formed bullish candle on Thursday and also managed to open with upside gap on Friday, which indicates bulls are in a dominant position. This movement can be attributed to the budget's focus on farm and rural sector, and the fact that rural income is a major factor driving FMCG sales.

Dont Undermine The Power Of Systematic Investing

Sagar Bhosale 0 694 Article rating: No rating

Over the last few years, SIP has emerged as a preferred way of investing for mutual fund investors. This disciplined approach to investing has found its rightful place mainly due to the untiring efforts put in by all the stakeholders of mutual fund industry over the years and the realisation among the investing public that this strategy works very well partly because of “averaging” and partly because, in the long run, markets move upwards, despite bouts of volatility over different time periods.

Tax Column

DSIJ Intelligence 0 1902 Article rating: No rating

I, along with my three friends, are jointly purchasing an immovable property of Rs 1.8 crore. All four of us will pay separately the purchase consideration, although the agreement is one. Are we supposed to deduct tax at 1% while making payment of purchase consideration as prescribed under section 194IA of the Income Tax Act?

Fund of Fortnight

Sagar Bhosale 0 1037 Article rating: No rating

The equity market has become choppy again and this will be the character of the market until the general election results and beyond, that is, if there is a hung parliament. In these conditions, investing in funds that are well-diversified not only in terms of different capitalisation such as large-cap, mid-cap and small-cap but also in different asset classes makes an investing sense.

DSIJ Intelligence 0 1688 Article rating: No rating

Market is going nowhere as mentioned in one of my previous dialogues. This kind of dull movement in the market may persist till the election results are out. Not much time left for the elections and the results, actually — barely 3 months to go. I am telling you — accumulate as much of quality stocks as you can because I believe the next government is going to be formed by the BJP and it will be a stable government.
