Markets may begin flat with a negative bias following mixed cues from Asian peers

The outlook for the day is a flat start with a negative bias in early trading. There could be jitters as former RBI governor; Raghuram Rajan has expressed doubts on India’s ability to grow GDP at 7 per cent if sufficient jobs are not created. Also, he hinted at the confusing signals coming on the quality of data and suggests that the government must come clean on a single reliable source. At the time of writing, the SGX Nifty was trading down by 24 points at 11,500.

The said patent would help the company in manufacturing fabric for bath and bed products without the usage of chemically harmful fibers. It also allows the fabric to dry easily. This would bring new opportunities and drive the revenue as bath and bed products which are the highest contributors to the company’s total revenue.

The benchmark indices BSE Sensex and Nifty50 again surprised in the last leg of trading on Tuesday with a 400 point jump. Sensex closed at 38,233.41, up by 424.50 points or 1.12 per cent and Nifty50 was at 11,493.65, up by 139.40 points or 1.23 per cent. While Bank Nifty was again close to 30,000 level.

Kalpataru Power: Subsidiary to acquire Swedish EPC company

Kalpataru Power Transmission’s Swedish subsidiary Kalpataru Power Transmission Sweden AB has entered into a definitive agreement for the acquisition of 85 per cent of Linjemontage i Grastrop AB, an EPC company from Sweden, which is headquartered in Grastrop, Sweden along with its two wholly-owned subsidiaries. The acquisition is set to take place for a consideration of approximately US$24 million.


US slowdown fears push oil prices southwards

Issues like OPEC’s production cuts and US sanctions on Iran and Venezuela were eclipsed by concerns of an economic slowdown in the US combined with increased inflation expectations. These concerns were a result of bearish statements coming from the Federal Reserve, which led the 10-year treasury yields to touch their lowest levels since early 2018.

Power Finance set to acquire REC for Rs. 14,500 crore

Power Finance Corporation (PFC) signed a share purchase agreement for the acquisition of 103.94 crore shares of Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) which constitutes 52.63 per cent of the paid-up share capital from the President of India. The acquisition is set to take place at a cash consideration of Rs. 139.50 per share with the total cost of acquisition coming to Rs. 14,500 crore. REC’s closing price on March 19, 2019, was Rs. 148.40 per share.

Nifty’s latest swing is 20 bars old and has advanced by about 9.17 per cent from the February 19 lows. In terms of percentage gain, the current swing is sharper than the previous ones. At this juncture, it is better to avoid fresh longs in the index, but one can continue the existing longs as long as Nifty maintains the higher lows. Stocks in news: Jubilant Life Sciences, ENIL, Tata Steel, Bajaj Auto and Infosys.

Indian indices may open the session on a cautious note post the Holi festival and ahead of the weekend and an expiry next week. Also, the cues from the Asian peers are not encouraging. At the time of writing, the SGX Nifty was marginally down by 7 points at 11,585. The data on India’s foreign exchange reserves for the week ended March 15 will be released today.
