Nifty and Sensex ends on a higher note; Nifty Metal top performing sector, Auto plunges

Market Update at 3:30 pm: Indices closed on a higher note, led by gains in metal stocks with Nifty Metal index closing 1.08 per cent up. Nifty and Sensex ended high during Tuesday’s trading session with gains of 0.86 per cent and 0.99 per cent respectively. Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap fell by 0.27 per cent and 0.40 per cent respectively.
India VIX slipped over 1.6 per cent as the benchmark indices continued to trade in a confined range.
UPL, ITC and Reliance emerged as the top gainers while Eicher Motors, Apollo Hospitals and SBI Life Insurance were the top losers.
For tomorrow, global cues shall be in focus with US inflation data set to be released today. Stock specific action is likely to continue in the broader market.
Market Update at 11:00 am: Indices continue to trade higher with Sensex gaining 293 point to trade at 60,725 and Nifty 50 gaining 71 points to trade at 17,841. UPL is the biggest gainer of the day with the stock surging more than 4 per cent while Adani Enterprises, ahead of the Q3 results, is the biggest loser of the day with the stock down 2.3 per cent.
About 1230 stocks are advancing as against 1903 stocks that are declining, while 152 stocks remain unchanged.
Nifty IT remained the best sector with a gain of more than 1.3 per cent while Nifty Realty is the worst sector and traded 1.39 per cent down.
Market Update at 9:30 am: Indices have been trading higher amid positive global cues. NSE Nifty 50 has gained 0.30 per cent to trade at 17,837 level while S&P BSE Sensex rose by 239 points. Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap trade on a positive note.
Nifty IT is the top performing sector while Nifty Energy is the worst performing sector.
Pre market update: The Dow Jones gained 1.11 per cent, the Nasdaq composite climbed 1.48 per cent and the S&P 500 advanced 1.14 per cent. The consumer price index for January will be released on Tuesday, revealing whether price increases have slowed as a result of the central bank's rate hikes.
Adani Enterprises, Eicher Motors and Indiabulls Housing Finance are some of the few companies which are set to declare results today. Stock specific action is likely to continue in the broader market.
Oil prices rose on Monday as investors weighed Russia's plans to reduce crude output and short-term demand concerns ahead of US inflation data this week.
In the last trading session, the FIIs turned net buyers and bought shares worth Rs 1322 crore while the DIIs offloaded shares worth Rs 522 crore.
Nifty is likely to open around 17800 level and volatility is expected to persist throughout the day.
