Mutual fund update: Winners & losers of FY20

The financial year 2019-20 would have been different but the dangerous respiratory disease that has gripped the world over has taken a toll in the equity market also. The fourth quarter of FY20 remains one of the worst quarters for the global equity indices, including India. Frontline equity indices such as Sensex and Nifty 50 have lost a quarter of their value in the last year. The broader market indices have lost more than one-third of their value in the same period. For example, BSE Mid-cap and BSE Small-cap indices have lost 33 per cent and 36 per cent in the last one year.

Mutual fund category performance

In the last year, not a single category of funds have given a positive return.  The best category is Pharma that has generated negative three per cent.
