MF Schemes : Winners and losers of last one week

Last week has been quite volatile for the Indian equity market. We saw large swings in the market. On last Friday (September 21, 2018), we saw Sensex moving by 1,495 in a single day and finally closing at 36,841, down by 1.17 per cent. In the last four trading session, Sensex is down by almost 2 per cent. Nevertheless, the cut was deeper in the financial stocks, which remained at the epicentre of such turbulence. Even the small-cap and mid-cap dedicated indices saw a larger fall. BSE Small-cap and Mid-cap indices fell by 3.7 and 6.5 per cent, respectively in the same period. The funds mapped to these indices performed worse. They fell by more than their respective indices.

Nonetheless, everything is not lost and one category that stood out and performed well in the same period is ‘international’ category. Most of the funds falling in the international category has performed well, irrespective of their origin that is Asia, Europe or the US.
