Markets scale new all-time highs

The benchmark indices spurted during the post-lunch session on Monday to breach all-time high levels. The BSE Sensex was at 40,113, up by 398 points, while Nifty50 was at 12,045, up by 123 points or up by 1 per cent each.

 

The heavyweights pushing up the market were HDFC contributing 70.00 points, HDFC Bank 61.09 points, Reliance 55.41 points, while IT stocks Infosys and TCS were contributing around 33 points each to the Sensex.

 

Among the top gainers were Hero Moto Corp up 5.38 per cent, followed by Bajaj-Auto, Asian Paint, Britannia and IOC up by close to 3 per cent each on Nifty, while on Sensex, HUL, Tata Steel and IndusInd were also up by more than 2 per cent. Among the top losers on Sensex were Axis Bank, SBI, ONGC, ITC, L&T and ICICI Bank, while on Nifty, Tech Mahindra and GAIL were also experiencing selling pressure.

 

Sectorally, all sectors, except Media, were trading in the green. Nifty Bank was at 31,539.25, up by 163.85 points or 0.52 per cent, while Nifty Pharma was up by 0.78 per cent. Nifty Auto, FMCG, Metal and IT were all up more than 1 per cent each.

 

On Monday, at 14:25 hours, the BSE Sensex was at 40,196.80, up by 482.60 points or 1.22 per cent, and Nifty was at 12,053.80, up by 131.00 points or 1.10 per cent.
