Market Close: Weekly Wrap-Up

Merely three indices closed in the green this week, namely: Healthcare, Pharma and Media, while all the others concluded the week on a crimson note.

On the BSE, the BSE Healthcare Index was the best performer this week as it closed at 12,923.39, up 204.16 points or 1.61 per cent. All the other indices closed in the red. Some examples include – BSE Consumer Durables Index (down 8.55 per cent), BSE Capital Goods Index (down 5.20 per cent) and BSE Industrials Index (down 3.79 per cent).

The top gainer in the BSE Healthcare Index was Indoco Remedies, up 9.02 per cent. Meanwhile, the top loser was Healthcare Global, down 11.37 per cent.

On the NSE, the Nifty Pharma performed well this week as it closed at 8144.30, up 217.80 points or up 2.75 per cent. The Nifty Media Index was up 12.95 points or 0.63 per cent at 2,066.10. Meanwhile, all other Nifty indices closed in the red, that is, Nifty Finance (down 3.14 per cent), Nifty Bank (down 2.78 per cent) and Nifty Auto (down 2.49 per cent), to name a few.

The performance of the Nifty Pharma Index was driven by Sun Pharma (up 8.69 per cent), Biocon (up 5.71 per cent) and Glenmark Pharma (up 4.47 per cent). However, Piramal Enterprises performed dismally and ended this week at Rs. 1,941.00, down 2.64 per cent.

On Friday, the S&P BSE Sensex closed at 38,736.23, down 86.88 points or 0.22 per cent. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty50 index closed at 11,552.50, down 30.40 points or 0.26 per cent.
