The Kahneman Effect: Thinking Smarter, Investing Wiser

We pay tribute to the groundbreaking work of Daniel Kahneman, a towering figure in behavioural economics.

Ninad Ramdasi 0 274 Article rating: 4.7

The Indian equity market is currently thriving, reaching all-time highs despite recent bouts of volatility. However, many investors find that their portfolios do not reflect this success.
Besides investment,

The Goldilocks Scenario

Ninad Ramdasi 0 190 Article rating: 5.0

For those not familiar with the story, Goldilocks and the Three Bears is a 19th century English fairytale of which three versions exist, one of which is that of a young woman called Goldilocks who enters the forest home of three bears.

Rain Time, Gain Time

Ninad Ramdasi 0 134 Article rating: 5.0

On June 28, after a gap of almost seven months, the Indian frontline equity indices once again touched their lifetime high and in doing so became the only major equity market to cross its earlier high.

Miles Crossed and More Miles to Go!

Ninad Ramdasi 0 107 Article rating: 5.0

An anniversary issue holds a special moment for any publication, and it also gives an opportunity to share the journey of the publication with readers. When your magazine was first published in the year 1986, it was an era of very less information if not complete darkness when it came to stock selection and investment.

A Season to Cheer

Ninad Ramdasi 0 56 Article rating: 5.0

Last week most of us breathed a sigh of relief as the much-awaited news on the macroeconomic front indicated that retail inflation, measured by CPI, had finally eased to an 11-month low! CPI inflation for November fell to 5.9 percent, primarily led by easing of food prices.

1,000 and Counting

Ninad Ramdasi 1 62 Article rating: 5.0

What a joyous moment it is for us at DSIJ right now! So much so that even the indices appear to be in a celebratory mood. And what’s the reason? Well, this is our 1,000th edition! A big number, indeed! It has taken us an eventful 37 years to reach this milestone, which hardly any other magazine can boast about.

Its Rainbow Time, Finally!

Ninad Ramdasi 0 38 Article rating: 5.0

The equity fever amongst investors in India is near its all-time high and trust me it’s contagious – the equity culture. Go to any town or any city and it is difficult to miss equity discussion with the BSE Sensex managing to close at all-time high levels on a closing basis.

Bear Market Rally or a New Bull Market?

Ninad Ramdasi 0 319 Article rating: 5.0

Among all the negative news globally, the frontline indices of Indian equity market are up by almost 16 per cent from their recent lows attained in the mid of June. Most of you would be wondering if the current momentum in the market marks the end of correction that started last year in the month of October or are investors being suckered by a bear market rally?

And Now the Tables Turn!

Ninad Ramdasi 0 249 Article rating: 5.0

As mentioned in my last editorial, the market had already priced in factors such as higher crude oil, above average raw material prices, disruption in supply chain and the geopolitical situation but when a positive trigger like the news of HDFC and HDFC Bank merger surfaced, the market jumped up phenomenally.

Make Money, Not War!

Ninad Ramdasi 0 323 Article rating: 5.0

While the last few months have passed by with discussions about how the market rise will tend to slow down or stall owing to tapering, high inflation rate or the new corona virus variants, no one would have expected the Ukraine-Russia war jolt that has shaken the foundation of the market with the index correcting near about 17 per cent from its highs.

Look Forward and Reap the Rewards

Ninad Ramdasi 0 348 Article rating: No rating

The Indian markets’ performance has been so impressive that investors have forgotten what a market correction looks like, forget talking about a market crash. On an YTD basis, the BSE Sensex is up by about 30 per cent while NASDAQ is up by 16.55 per cent and Dow Jones Industrial Average has gained by 15.20 per cent.

Be Wary of the Highs

Ninad Ramdasi 0 755 Article rating: No rating

A point to note is that the broader markets have been underperforming the large-caps recently. To get a deeper perspective, if we observe the performance of the 690+ constituents of the BSE Small-Cap index in the past one week, as many as 525 out of the 696 index constituents are trading with negative returns.

Time to Connect the Dots

Ninad Ramdasi 0 589 Article rating: 5.0

What we are witnessing in the markets right now is a classic tussle between bulls and bears where bears are banking on the rising number of corona virus cases and the fear of lockdown to build confidence while the bulls are focusing on the Q4 results and international markets to build their case.
