BHEL commissions Lignite based plant

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) announced that, in the country, it has commissioned the first of its kind, Lignite based 500 MW thermal unit of the Neyveli New Thermal Power Project (2x500 MW) in Tamil Nadu.

This is the country’s first lignite-fired 500 MW power plant with highest rating pulverised lignite-fired thermal unit commissioned so far. It is based on the once-through and tower type boiler design, which is primarily adopted for the first time in the country for a lignite-based thermal unit. The project, which is owned by NLC India Limited (NLCIL) is located in Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu. The project’s second unit is also in an advanced stage of commissioning.

NLCIL had awarded BHEL with the order for boiler, turbine, and generator (BTG) package for two units of 500 MW Lignite based thermal plant at Neyveli. Hence, BHEL’s work related to the project included design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning, along with associated civil works of BTG and associated auxiliaries and electricals, Controls & Instrumentation (C&I), and Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs). BHEL has manufactured the equipment needed for the project in Haridwar, Trichy, Hyderabad, Ranipet, Bhopal, and Bengaluru.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is a Government of India founded and owned engineering and manufacturing company, headquartered in New Delhi. It is one of the country’s largest power generation equipment manufacturer.

On Tuesday, the stock of the company closed at Rs 43.45, down by 1.47 per cent or Rs 0.65  per share. The 52-week high is Rs 78.75 and 52-week low is Rs 41.35 on BSE.
