Bharti Airtel receives demand notice for penalties of Rs. 11 lakh

The shares of Bharti Airtel Limited took a hit of around 2 per cent as the company was issued a demand notice, charging penalties worth Rs. 11 lakh for the quarter ending March 2018. The penalties are towards routine matters revolving around accessibility to call centers, percentage of calls answered by the operators, and credibility pertaining to metering and billing, reported the company in a regulatory filing.

The penalties are with respect to six circles namely, Maharashtra, Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kolkata and Gujarat. The company has confirmed the receipt of the demand notice and informed that it will deal with it appropriately.

It has also been noted that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has imposed penalties on other telecom operators such as Reliance Jio, Vodafone and Idea Cellular, for faring poorly on various service quality benchmarks for the March 2018 quarter.

Bharti Airtel Limited is a telecommunication company, headquartered in New Delhi. They have operations in 16 countries across Asia and Africa. It is ranked amongst the top 3 mobile service providers globally, in terms of subscribers. The company offers a portfolio of products including 2G, 3G and 4G wireless services, mobile commerce, fixed line services, home broadband, DTH and national and international long distance services to carriers.

On Wednesday, the shares of Bharti Airtel Limited opened at Rs. 382.00 per share, and hit a low of Rs. 372.55 per share on the BSE. At 12:48 pm, the stock was trading at Rs. 373.65 per share, down by 1.63 per cent.
