Ashok Leyland becomes first OEM to meet BS-VI norms

Ashok Leyland, a flagship company of the Hinduja group and country’s second largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, announced on Tuesday that, it has become the first Indian original equipment manufacturer to meet Bharat Stage VI emission norms across its full range of heavy duty trucks with gross vehicle weight of 16.2 tonnes and above.

The Supreme Court has ruled that selling of BS-IV vehicle will be banned from April 1, 2020. Instead BS-VI emission norms will come into force across the country. The major difference between BS-IV and BS-VI norm is presence of sulfur in fuel.

N Saravanan, Chief Technology Officer, received the certification confirming compliance to BS-VI emission standard from Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). Dheeraj Hinduja, Chairman, Ashok Leyland said that “Compliance in the light commercial vehicle and intermediate commercial vehicle ranges will be completed shortly. We will offer a comprehensive range from 70 hp to 360 hp in BS-VI application”. He further added - “This achievement of meeting the BS-VI emission standard across our heavy vehicle range further reinforces our position as technology leaders”.

On Tuesday, the stock of Ashok Leyland Ltd. opened at Rs.63.90 per share and made an intraday high and low of Rs. 66.75 and Rs. 61.85, respectively on the BSE. The stock closed at Rs.63.35, up by 1.40 per cent
