Nifty 50 began higher on a positive note at 18,524.4, up from its previous closing of 18,497.15. This was due to powerful global and domestic cues. Leading Wall Street indices advanced on Monday, owing to robust rallies in heavyweights such as Microsoft and Pfizer. However, all eyes will be on the CPI inflation print, which is set to be released on Tuesday.

In overnight trade, Nasdaq Composite gained 1.26 per cent, Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 1.58 per cent, and S&P 500 added 1.43 per cent. The indices soared the most in a single day since November 30. Asian markets jumped in early trade on Tuesday, mirroring Wall Street's overnight action.

Nifty 50 was trading at 18,580.05 at 12:40 p.m., up 82.9 points or 0.45 per cent. The broader market indices underperformed the frontline indices. Nifty Mid-Cap 100 index is up 0.3 per cent, while the Nifty Small-Cap 100 index is up 0.25 per cent.

The advance-decline ratio on the BSE was favourable, with 2035 stocks rising, 1371 falling, and 166 staying unchanged. Apart from realty, media, FMCG, and pharma, all other sectors traded in the green.

According to December 12 statistics, FIIs were net sellers while DIIs were net purchasers. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold Rs 138.81 crore worth of shares. DIIs (domestic institutional investors) purchased shares worth Rs 695.6 crore.
