Sensex substantially gained by 0.26 per cent closing at 72,831.94 level, while Nifty also gained by 0.39 per cent and closed at 22,096.75 level.
According to provisional data from the NSE, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 1,826.97 crore, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought stocks worth Rs 3,208.87 crore on March 21.

After gap up opening, indices showed strength in the first half session and here Bears came in action and dragged the markets down to close around opening levels. NSE Nifty 50 managed to close in green, around 40 points or 0.24 per cent at 16,985.70 level, while S&P BSE Sensex also closed below the opening levels around the drop of 126 points. Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Small cap 100 dropped 0.47 per cent and 1.59 per cent respectively.

Indian markets witnessed a range bound session for the day. NSE Nifty 50 rose 44.40 points or 0.26 per cent to close at 17,152 level while S&P BSE Sensex closed around the opening levels with gains of more than 150 points. Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 rose 0.28 per cent and 0.54 per cent respectively.

Indian markets remained strong throughout the day. NSE Nifty 50 rose 119 points or 0.70 per cent to close at 17,107 level while S&P BSE Sensex successfully closed above 58,000. Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 rose 0.59 per cent and 0.66 per cent respectively.

Indices saw a strong short covering rally towards the end as Nifty surged 0.67 per cent to close at 17100 level while S&P BSE Sensex gained 355 points. Nifty jumped about 135 points in the afternoon session.

NSE Nifty 50 index recovered about 135 points to close at 16,985 level. This volatile action formed dragon fly doji candle on daily charts. S&P BSE Sensex successfully closed in green around 57,634 level. Interestingly, Nifty Midcap 50 showed relatively good strength and closed around 0.52 per cent up today.
