Carnage on Friday: Nifty closes just above 17,300; Sensex bleeds over 1,000 points as financials take a hit
Financials were the top underperformers as news reports of banks taking a liquidity hit for the first time in forty months led to a sell-off across all private and PSU banks.
It was carnage on Friday as a severe sell-off in the Indian equity markets took investors by surprise. Nifty tumbled 1.72 per cent to close just above 17,300 while Sensex tanked more than 1,000 points.

Major indices ended Wednesday’s trading session on a weak note, ahead of US Federal Reserve meeting scheduled later this evening. Nifty lost 0.55 per cent while Sensex dipped 265 points.
Indices slipped towards the end; IT and pharma drag the market
Adani Ports, Bajaj Finance & Cipla were the top losers while Shree Cement, Hindalco, and Divi’s Labs were the top gainers amongst Nifty 50 stocks.
Indices were on a free fall in the last half an hour as Nifty collapsed over 200 points to close at 17,505.

Indices closed higher on Monday as Nifty soared above the 17,500-level. The benchmark index closed higher by 0.73 per cent while Sensex jumped 465 points. Meanwhile, the broader market also performed well as Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap closed higher by 0.35 per cent each.

The level of 16,200 is generally considered a strong level for Nifty but since it closed above 16,300 today, this level becomes quite significant.

Indices saw an amazing rally in the last hour as Nifty jumped 1.43 per cent at the end of the day. Sensex climbed 760 points while Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap rose 1.40 per cent & 1.59 per cent, respectively.

Tata Consumer Products, Titan and HUL emerged as the top gainers whereas Tata Steel, Power Grid Corp & HCL Tech were weak today.

Indices ended at their respective day’s high and Nifty rose 1.13 per cent. Sensex gained about 616 points while Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap climbed 1.90 per cent & 0.50 per cent, respectively.
