After starting the session on a brighter note, Indian domestic indices ended lower, dragged down by losses in the metals, oil and gas and energy sectors. Broader indices, on the other hand, outperformed main indices by a significant margin.
The BSE Sensex declined 0.55 per cent to the 58,962 level at the close. The Nifty 50 index lost 0.51 per cent to a level of 17,303.

Asian Paints - Shares of the company surged nearly 3 per cent in an otherwise dismal market, making it the top Sensex gainer. The company earlier announced that Asian Paints (Polymers) Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, has entered into an MoU with the Government of Gujarat to establish the manufacturing facility, subject to approvals.
Vedanta Ltd - As the worst performer in the BSE Metals pack today, shares of Vedanta Ltd plunged more than 6 per cent, having a negative impact on the performance of the metal industry. Over the last month, shares have fallen by more than 18 per cent.
Adani Enterprises - Adani Enterprises had strong buying pressure and soared more than 14 per cent, leading the gains in the large-cap pack. Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone, Adani Wilmar and Adani Green Energy were also among the Top Gainers in large-cap stocks.
