Market Wrap: Benchmark indices close on a negative note with Nifty Realty and Nifty Auto among the top losers!

Sensex closed lower by 0.61 per cent and closed at 81,006.61, while Nifty closed lower by 0.89 per cent and closed at 24,749.85 level.

Market Update at 3:35 PM: On Thursday, Benchmark indices concluded the trading day on a negative note as Sensex closed lower by 0.61 per cent and closed at 81,006.61, while Nifty closed lower by 0.89 per cent and closed at 24,749.85 level. Similarly, the Broader market, Nifty Midcap closed lower by 1.66 per cent at 58,465.95, while Nifty Smallcap closed lower by 1.24 per cent and closed at 19,065.95.

Market volatility, as indicated by India VIX, rose by 2.61 per cent and is trading at the level of 13.39 reflecting a rise in market volatility.

Within the sectoral landscape, Nifty IT emerged as top gainers, while Nifty Realty, Nifty Auto and Nifty Media are the sectors which underperformed.

INFY, TECHM, and POWERGRID were among the top gainers while on the other hand BAJAJ-AUTO, SHRIRAMFIN, and NESTLEIND were among the top losers.

About 497 stocks were advancing as against to 1,863 that were declining, thus indicating a negative sentiment in the broader market.

Market Update at 12:00 PM: During the ongoing trading session, benchmark indices are showing a negative trend, with the Sensex down by 0.57 per cent and the Nifty down by 0.79 per cent. However, in the broader market, the Nifty Midcap declined by 1.30 per cent, while the Nifty Smallcap declined by 1.05 per cent.

India VIX rose by 2.99 per cent and is trading around the mark of 13.44, indicating a rise in market volatility.

In the sectoral landscape Nifty IT emerged as Top Gainers, while Nifty Auto, Nifty Realty and Nifty Media are the sectors which are underperforming.

Top gainers in individual stocks are INFY, SBIN, and HINDALCO while, BAJAJ-AUTO, HEROMOTOCO, and SHRIRAMFIN are among the Top Losers in the Nifty 50.

The broader market sentiment is negative, with 536 stocks advancing compared to 1,825 stocks declining.

Market Update at 9:35 AM: On Thursday, Indian markets opened on a positive note, with both Nifty and Sensex showing positive movement. Nifty IT led the gains and Nifty Auto was the biggest laggard.

As of now, the Sensex is down by 0.18 per cent, hovering around 81,360, and Nifty is down by 0.35 per cent, trading near 24,880. Similarly, in the broader market, the Nifty Midcap declined about 0.42 per cent to about 59,204, and the Nifty Smallcap is down by 0.05 per cent, trading near 19,290.

India VIX rose by 2.61 per cent and is trading at 13.39, indicating a rise in market volatility.

Within the sectoral landscape Nifty IT and Nifty PSU Bank are among the top gainers while Nifty Auto, Nifty Realty and Nifty Media are underperforming.

INFY, SBIN, and HINDALCO are among the top gainers within the Nifty 50 while BAJAJ-AUTO, HEROMOTOCO, and EICHERMOT are among the top losers.

About 838 stocks are advancing as against to 1,411 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a negative sentiment in the broader market.

Pre-Market Update at 8:00 AM: On Wednesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.79 per cent higher at 43,077.70. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite also closed higher, gaining 0.47 per cent and 0.28 per cent, respectively.

Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty 50 and the S&P BSE Sensex extended their two-day losing streak on Wednesday, reflecting a broader sell-off across global markets. Most indices in the Asia-Pacific region and Europe fell sharply, influenced by overnight trading on Wall Street.

Trends on the GIFT Nifty indicate a flat to positive start for the broader Indian index, with a gain of 31.5 points or 0.13 per cent. Nifty futures were trading around the 25,033.5 level.

The US 10-year Treasury yield jumped 44 bps to 4.02 percent, while the US 2-year bond yield rose 16 bps to 3.94 percent.

Oil prices rose in early Asian trade on Thursday, paring sharp losses from the past two sessions, after industry data showed an unexpected drop in U.S. crude stockpiles last week. Brent crude was trading 0.61% higher at $74.67 a barrel as of 06:34 a.m. Bloomberg spot gold was trading at $2,677.34 an ounce.

On October 16, 2024, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 3,435 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 2,256 crore.

Stocks banned from trading in the F&O segment on October 17, 2024, include Bandhan Bank, Chambal Fertilizers, GNFC, Granules, Hindustan Copper, IDFC First Bank, IEX, Manappuram, National Aluminium, PNB, RBL Bank, SAIL, and Tata Chemicals.
