Market Wrap: Benchmark indices close higher while Broader indices outperformed!

On Friday, Benchmark indices concluded the trading week on a positive note as Sensex substantially declined by 0.82 per cent and closed at 73,730.16 level, while Nifty also significantly plunged by 0.67 per cent and closed at 22,419.95 level.

Market Update at 3:45 PM: On Friday, Benchmark indices concluded the trading week on a positive note as Sensex substantially declined by 0.82 per cent and closed at 73,730.16 level, while Nifty also significantly plunged by 0.67 per cent and closed at 22,419.95 level. Similarly, the Broader market experienced significant gains as Nifty Midcap closed higher by 0.79 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap gained by 0.56 per cent.

Market volatility, as indicated by India VIX, has gained by 1.82 per cent, reflecting an increase in market volatility.

Nifty Media, Nifty Pharma, Nifty Realty and Nity IT were among the top gainers while Nifty Financial Services, Nifty Bank, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Auto are among the top losers.

Tech Mahindra, Divi’s Laboratories and LTIMindtree were among the top gainers while Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv and Indusind Bank were among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 1025 stocks were advancing as against to 1067 stocks that were declining, thus indicating a positive sentiment in the broader market.

Market Update at 2:20 PM: In the current trading session benchmark indices trade on a negative note with the Sensex trading substantially lower by 0.59 per cent, while Nifty also declined by 0.52 per cent. Whereas, in the broader indices Nifty Midcap has surged by 0.75 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap has significantly gained by 0.72 per cent.

India VIX is currently trading marginally higher by 1.16 per cent, indicating an increase in market volatility.

Nifty Media, Nifty IT and Nifty Pharma are among the top gainers while Nifty Financial Services, Nifty Bank and Nifty Metal are among the top losers.

Tech Mahindra, Divi’s Laboratories and LTIMindtree are among the top gainers while Bajaj Finance, Shriram Finance and Bajaj Finserv are among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 1106 stocks are advancing as against 984 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a positive sentiment in the broader market.

 

Market Update at 12:35 PM In the current trading session benchmark indices trade marginally lower as Sensex has slightly declined by 0.28 per cent, while Nifty also plunged by 0.24 per cent. Similarly, in the broader markets Nifty Midcap has marginally gained by 0.84 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap has surged by 0.83 per cent.

India VIX is currently trading higher by 1.19 per cent, indicating a slight increase in market volatility.

European markets were poised to open higher on Friday, regaining momentum after a dip in yesterday’s session. European futures DAX and CAC trade higher by 0.53 per cent and 0.09 per cent respectively, while FTSE is trading marginally lower by 0.09 per cent.

Market Update at 11:10 AM: In the ongoing trading session, Benchmark indices are trading on a negative note with Sensex marginally declining by 0.27 per cent, while Nifty also plunged by 0.22 per cent. Similarly, in the broader indices Nifty Midcap experience substantial gains of 0.73 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap has soared by 0.64 per cent.

India VIX is trading higher by 2.59 per cent, indicating an increase in market volatility.

Nifty Media, Nifty IT and Nifty Auto are among the top gainers while Nifty Financial Services, Nifty Bank and Nifty PSU Bank are among the top losers.

Top gainers in individual stocks are Tech Mahindra, LTIMindtree and Divi’s Laboratories, whereas Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv and Indusind Bank are among the top losers in the Nifty 50.

The broader market sentiment is positive, with 1246 stocks advancing compared to 826 stocks declining.

 

Market Update at 9:35 AM: On Friday, Indian markets initiated the trading day on a positive note with Sensex opening moderately higher by 0.07 per cent, while Nifty also opened higher by 0.07 per cent. Similarly, in the broader indices Nifty Midcap opened moderately higher by 0.5 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap also opened higher by 0.65 per cent.

India VIX has marginally surged by 0.36 per cent, indicating a slight increase in market volatility.

Nifty IT, Nifty Metal and Nifty Media are among the top gainers while Nifty Realty and Nifty Financial Services are among the top losers.

Tech Mahindra, LTIMindtree and Divi’s Laboratories are among the top gainers while Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv and M&M are among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 1399 stocks are advancing as against to 537 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a positive sentiment in the broader market.

 

Pre-Market Update at 8:30 AM: Thursday's Wall Street session witnessed a downturn as investors reacted to disappointing US economic growth and ongoing inflation concerns. This was compounded by a sell-off in Large-Cap stocks triggered by Meta Platforms' disappointing results.

Data revealed that US economic growth in the first quarter was the slowest in nearly two years, while inflation continued to rise, diminishing hopes of Federal Reserve interest rate cuts this year.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 375.12 points (0.98 per cent) to 38,085.80, the S&P 500 declined by 23.21 points (0.46 per cent) to 5,048.42, and the Nasdaq Composite slipped by 100.99 points (0.64 per cent) to 15,611.76.

The GIFT Nifty trends suggest a favourable opening for the Indian Benchmark indices, showing an increase of 87 points or 0.39 per cent. Nifty futures are trading near the 22,657.5 level.

Early Friday trading saw an increase in oil prices, driven by remarks from the US Treasury secretary suggesting the nation's economy may be stronger than initially perceived from weak first-quarter data. Additionally, ongoing conflict in the Middle East contributed to supply concerns.

Brent crude futures climbed by 34 cents (0.38 per cent) to USD 89.35 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures increased by 33 cents (0.39 per cent) to USD 83.90 per barrel.

On April 25, 2024, foreign institutional investors (FII) offloaded shares worth Rs 2,823.33 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DII) bought shares worth Rs 6,167.56 crore.
