The Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) industry make a significant contribution to the nation's socioeconomic growth. Due to the sector's contribution to the GDP and exports of India, it has taken on a substantial amount of significance. The sector has also made significant contributions to the growth of entrepreneurship, particularly in India's semi-urban and rural areas. 

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) are divided into two types, namely Manufacturing Enterprises and Service Enterprises, in accordance with the terms of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act, 2006 

The businesses are further divided into groups according to equipment investment and annual turnover. 

More than 60 SMEs are anticipated to join the BSE SME platform in one year (2022-23) in order to raise equity financing to suit their business needs. 16 SMEs entered the market through the initial public offering (IPO) method, raising Rs 100 crore (USD 13.74 million) in 2020. 50 SME IPOs have already been listed on the bourses on a YTD basis, and the BSE SME IPO index has increased by 151.26 per cent in just one year. 

Indian MSMEs are quickly moving away from cash payments in favour of digital ones; 72 per cent of payments are being made digitally versus only 28 per cent in cash.
