Retail inflation, as reported by the official data, fell to a five-month low of 6.71 per cent in July 2022. In the meantime, industrial production growth slowed to 12.3 per cent in June from a year earlier, down from a 12-month high of 19.6 per cent in May 2022. On BSE, the auto index recorded the highest increase among all sectors with more than 500 points.  

The barometer index S&P BSE Sensex soared 454 points to trade at 59,917 levels at 11.02 am. S&P BSE Midcap index traded at 25,008 level, up by 243 points. S&P BSE Smallcap index too zoomed 231 points to trade at 28,137 levels. In terms of sectoral indices, except metals, all other sectors are trading in the green with a marginal upside as realty, auto, and FMCG industries stocks surged more than a per cent each.  

Nifty index is at 17,835 level, trading with a gain of only 137 points. Bank Nifty also rallied 338 points to trade at 39,380 levels. The Top Gainers on Nifty are HDFC Life Insurance (4.91 per cent), Eicher Motors (3.13 per cent), Adani Ports (3.13 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (2.82 per cent), and SBI Life Insurance (2.20 per cent).  

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 3,040.46 crore on August 12 while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth Rs 839.45 crore.
