On Monday, Indian shares rose as solid earnings from Tata Motors Ltd and DLF boosted hopes of a slowing in domestic retail inflation.
The climb in the auto index was led by Tata Motors, which rose 4 per cent, while the rise in the realty index was led by DLF, which rose as much as 4.89 per cent to a new 52-week high. Both corporations reported increased profits in the March quarter. For the second month in a row, retail inflation in India fell to an 18-month low of 4.7 per cent in April, well below the central bank's upper tolerance ceiling of 6 per cent. The wholesale price index inflation in India for April, which is scheduled on Monday, is also likely to ease due to base effects.
As of 10:55 am, the BSE Sensex is trading at 62,269 levels, gaining 241 points. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index is trading flat, currently in green at a level of 26,334 points up by 133 points. The Small-Cap index is trading higher at a level of 29,744 gaining 127 points. The NSE index NIFTY50 surged by 55 points at a level of 18,372. The Bank Nifty is trading near the weekly high at 43,935 level, increasing by 149 points.
On May 12, the foreign portfolio investors bought securities worth of Rs 1,014.06 crore and the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were the net sellers of shares worth 922.14 crore.
