At 12:40 PM, The Sensex and Nifty witnessed declines of 0.64 per cent and 0.61 per cent respectively. However, Nifty Mid-cap showed resilience with a 0.26 per cent increase, and Nifty Small-cap also rose by 0.24 per cent. 

Furthermore, NIFTY Bank is also currently trading in red with 0.38 per cent dip and FINNIFTY following the trail is down by 0.41 per cent.

The India VIX saw a significant surge of 2.80 per cent, signifying heightened market volatility.

Sector-wise, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Realty were the top gainers, while Nifty Media, Nifty FMCG, and Nifty Energy faced challenges.

Among the Nifty 50 stocks, Adani Ports, Titan, and Adani Enterprises were among the top gainers, while LTI, Mindtree, ITC, and Power Grid experienced declines.

The broader market sentiment was cautiously positive, as around 1002 stocks advanced compared to 984 declining stocks, indicating a mix of caution and optimism in the market.

On August 16, foreign institutional investors (FII) bought shares worth Rs 722.76 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DII) purchased shares worth Rs 2,406.19 crore.
