At the pre-opening bell, the frontline index S&P BSE Sensex opened in red with a loss of 227.56 points or 0.31 per cent. By 9.15 am, the index stood at 72,239.60 signifying a loss of 401.59 points or 0.55 per cent over its previous closing.
On the sectoral front, in the pre-opening session, metals fell by 0.02 per cent, power gained 0.07 and auto rose by 0.11 per cent.
Meanwhile, Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Ltd, Ahluwalia Contracts (India) Ltd and Ganesha Ecosphere Ltd emerged as the Top Gainers of BSE in the pre-opening session today.
Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Ltd, an S&P BSE company, surged 4.48 per cent to trade at Rs 513.85 apiece. The company has not made any significant announcements of late. Hence, the rally in the share price could be driven purely by the market forces.
