The month of December is traditionally believed to be one of the best months for the markets but turned out to be otherwise this time. As in the year 2022, the Nifty fell about 3.5 per cent in the month of December. Meanwhile, the BSE Smallcap index relatively outperformed the frontline index as it registered a loss of nearly 2 per cent.
Domestic mutual funds were net equity buyers in December 2022. Mutual funds were net equity buyers to an amount of Rs 14,692 crore as against net buying of Rs 1,688 crore in November 2022.
FIIs were the net sellers in equity in December 2022. The net equity selling from FIIs was for an amount of Rs 1,354 crore as against net buying of Rs 38,235 crore in November 2022.
