Kotak Pioneer Fund is a Kotak Mutual Fund’s thematic product that was released in October 2019 and has earned a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 28.48 per cent since its debut. The goal of this fund is to create capital appreciation through a well-diversified portfolio of equities, equity-related instruments, and units of global mutual funds that invest in businesses that use new forms of production, technology, distribution, or processes that are expected to disrupt current markets or value networks, displacing established market leaders, or introduce fresh products and/or business models.

 

Quarterly Performance of Kotak Pioneer Fund as against S&P BSE 500 TRI and Category

 

The graph above compares the fund's quarterly performance to that of the S&P BSE 500 TRI and its category. On the plus side, the fund has consistently outperformed its peers. However, when compared to its category, the fund performs worse on the southwards. Nonetheless, it is able to safeguard its downside better than the comparative index.

 

The Kotak Pioneer Fund is comprised of 50 stocks, with the top ten stocks accounting for 39 per cent of the portfolio and the top three sectors accounting for 35 per cent. This demonstrates how successful the fund's diversification is. However, one thing to keep in mind is that, although individual stocks account for no more than 7.5 per cent of the portfolio, an international mutual fund accounts for 15.37 per cent.

 

This fund is overweight in automobiles, services, energy, and capital goods when compared to its category. On the other hand, it is underweight in the financial, technology, and healthcare sectors. The top five industries are automobiles, finance, services, energy, and capital goods.
