The frontline indices moved in a range-bound fashion and were flat throughout the first half of the trading day. Despite trading above the 16,500 barrier, Nifty 50 appears to be resisting at the 16,600 level. Nifty's decline can be ascribed to pressures in the IT, media, PSU banks, and realty sectors.

Nifty 50 index was trading 0.23 per cent down at 16,546 at the time of writing. In terms of the broader markets, Nifty Mid-Cap 100 index was down 0.7 per cent at 27,826 and Nifty Small-Cap 100 index was down 1.2 per cent at 9,100. Market breadth appeared to be poor, with 1,191 stocks rising, 2,026 falling, and around 175 remaining unchanged.

US Treasury rates on Friday hit a two-week high (2.95 per cent), thanks to statistics suggesting that the US economy added more jobs in May than predicted. This suggests that the Federal Reserve will likely continue to raise interest rates in order to manage inflation.

As a result, the global equity markets suffered. The US indices fell dramatically on Friday, finishing with weekly losses of 1.2 per cent, 0.98 per cent, and 0.94 per cent for S&P 500, Nasdaq, and Dow, respectively.
