Stocks in bear territory: These smallcap stocks have tumbled over 30 per cent in 2022

Anecdotally, such kinds of geopolitical issues provide a good buying opportunity for the long-term investors.

Aggravating geo-political tensions between Russia and Ukraine have led to severe bloodbath on Dalal Street. At 10:10 AM on Thursday, frontline benchmark indices Nifty 50 and Sensex have plunged 3 per cent each trading at levels of 16,560 and 55,520, respectively. Top blue-chip losers include Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel, Tech Mahindra, IndusInd Bank and Adani Ports.

BSE Smallcap index is also trading in the red territory at 26,050 levels with losses of 3.35 per cent. High component constituents putting a drag on the index include L&T Technology Services, Tata Elxsi, Laurus Labs and Trident. Anecdotally, such kinds of geopolitical issues provide a good buying opportunity for the long-term investors.

Since the beginning of the year, Nifty 50 and Sensex have cracked 6.21 per cent and 6.42 per cent respectively. While BSE Smallcap index has corrected by 12.59 per cent. Heavy FII selling, rising inflation concerns, forthcoming rate hikes by US Federal Reserve and soaring oil prices have led to this sharp correction.
