The Sensex was trading at 56,792.71 down by 890.88 points 1.54 per cent, while Nifty was at 16,941, down by 265.65 points or 1.54 per cent from the last trading session.
On the BSE, 519 shares have advanced, 2727 shares declined, whereas 100 shares are unchanged.
The only gainers of Nifty 50 are ONGC and Bajaj Auto. Meanwhile, the top five stocks pulling down the index are Tata Steel, TCS, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors, and BPCL.
BSE Smallcap index is trading at 26,537.49, down by 2.21 per cent. The top five gainers are Indiabulls Real Estate, Balaji Telefilms, HT Media, MM Forgings, and Metropolis Healthcare. Each of these stocks gained more than 15 per cent. Similarly, the top five stocks pulling the index down include Yaari Digital Integrated Services, TCPL Packaging, Dhanvarsha Finvest, Gulshan Polyols, and Take Solutions.
Most of the sectoral indices on the BSE were trading in the red, with BSE Basic Materials, BSE, Capital Goods, BSE Metal, BSE Realty, BE PSU dragging the Sensex even more. Most of the sectoral indices were down by more than 1.5 per cent.
