At 11.30 am on Wednesday, the core equity indices i.e., Sensex & Nifty 50 fell, owing to poor Q4 result updates from IT and auto companies, which led to higher selling from investors.

The US markets were spooked and fell by almost 1 per cent as the Fed Governor expressed worries about the growing inflation in the country and speedy tightening of the interest rates.

As a result of this, the 10-year Treasury note hit a high of 2.562 per cent before settling at 2.55 per cent while the benchmark rate rose above its two-year counterpart, which traded at around 2.528 per cent. The two-year yield had recently been trading above the 10-year, triggering a so-called yield curve inversion.

Sensex was at 59,650.64, down by 525.86 points or 0.87 per cent while Nifty was at 18,189.37, down by 99.46 points or 0.54 per cent from the last trading session.

On BSE, 2,068 shares have advanced, 1,151 shares declined whereas 120 shares are unchanged.

The top five gainers in Nifty 50 pack are Coal India, NTPC, UPL, Tata Steel, and IOC. Meanwhile, the top five stocks pulling down the index are HDFC Bank, HDFC, HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company, HCL Technologies, and Tech Mahindra.

BSE Smallcap index is trading at 29,755.40, up by 0.58 per cent. The top five gainers are OnMobile Global, EIH Association Hotel, Swan Energy, Uttam Sugar Mills, and Sharda Corporation. Each of these stocks gained more than 14 per cent. Similarly, the top five stocks pulling the index down include J&K Bank, SML Isuzu, Barbeque Nation Hospitality, GRM Overseas, and ELGI Equipments.

Sector-wise on BSE, BSE IT, BSE Teck, BSE Auto, BSE Realty, BSE Finance & BSE Finance were trading in the red and were down by almost 1 per cent each. On the flip side, BSE Oil & Gas and BSE Power were bullish by more than a per cent each.
