Shares of Skipper Ltd, the top BSE Smallcap gainer, kept small-cap bulls busy by locking at a 20 per cent upper circuit.
As most global indices tumbled ahead of US payroll data, Indian headline indices started lower as a result of the downturn, breaking a long winning streak. In early trades, the rupee strengthened against the US dollar.
At 10:10 am, the BSE Sensex declined 0.58 per cent, reaching a level of 62,915. The Nifty 50 index fell 0.59 per cent to the 18,701 level. On the Sensex, Reliance Industries, IndusInd Bank and Tech Mahindra were the Top Gainers, whereas Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finance and HDFC were the Top Losers.
The majority of the sectors were trading down, with the worst-performing sectors being BSE Power, BSE Auto, and BSE Utilities, whereas realty, metal and energy stocks attempted to boost markets with their significant gains.
