Sensex, Nifty tank; HDFC Bank dips more than 2 per cent, SBI tumbles, Bata gains 5 per cent

On Thursday, domestic benchmark indices tumbled. Sensex fell by 580.09 points or 1.31 per cent to settle at 43599.96 levels. Nifty declined by 166.55 points or 1.29 per cent to close at 12771.70 levels.

During today’s trading session weakness in banking and financial stocks was seen. Additionally, strong profit booking was seen in IT stocks as well.

Shares of Titan company touched its 52-week high after the company reported of good traction across all its businesses in the festive season.

In global markets, Shanghai index rose by 0.47 per cent while Hang Seng and Nikkei declined by 0.71 per cent and 0.36 per cent respectively whereas KOSPI closed flat with a positive bias. In European markets, FTSE 100, DAX and CAC 40 were trading in red down by 0.88, per cent, 1.23 per cent and 1.10 per cent respectively.

Sensex gainers made up of Power Grid gaining by 2.78 per cent, ITC increased by 2.06 per cent, NTPC rose by 1.64 per cent, Tata Steel gained by 1.24 per cent, Titan Company increased by 1 per cent, Bajaj Finserv gained by 0.57 per cent, etc.

Sensex draggers made up of SBI declining by 4.88 per cent, Axis Bank fell by 3.93 per cent, ICICI Bank decreased by 3.84 per cent, UltraTech Cement decreased by 3.18 per cent, Bajaj Finance fell by 2.61 per cent, HDFC Bank fell by 2.43 per cent, Bharti Airtel declined by 2.07 per cent, etc.

Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, Bankex was the biggest loser down by 2.75 per cent. BSE Finance index declined by 2.26 per cent. BSE Telecom index and BSE Realty index closed in red down by 1.68 per cent and 1.43 per cent respectively. BSE Consumer Durables index rose by 0.76 per cent. BSE FMCG index gained by 0.46 per cent.

In broader markets, BSE SmallCap index gained by 0.03 per cent whereas BSE MidCap index declined by 0.65 per cent.
