Sensex, Nifty on gaining streak; Snowman Logistics jumps 13 per cent, Vedanta declines

The domestic benchmark indices continued to hit record highs as investors cheered on positive global & domestic cues. On Tuesday, Sensex gained by 259.33 points or by 0.55 per cent to settle at 47,613.08 levels while Nifty closed up by 59.40 points or 0.43 per cent at 13,932.60 levels.  

Gains in today’s trading session were led by positive momentum seen in financial, banking & IT stocks.  

The shares of Rupa & Company locked in at its upper circuit of 20 per cent at 311.70 per share on Tuesday after Abakkus Emerging Opportunities Fund-1 bought around 1.50 per cent stake in the company through a bulk deal on the previous day.  

On the global front, Chinese stocks ended lower as investors booked profits from the recent rally. Shanghai Composite index closed in red, down by 0.54 per cent. Other Asian indices such as Hang Seng and KOSPI rose by 0.96 per cent and 0.42 per cent, respectively. Japan’s Nikkei index surged by 2.66 per cent thereby, breaching a nearly 30-year high by trading above 27,000 for the first time since April 1991.  

On Tuesday, the Indian rupee ended higher by 8 paise at 73.42 per dollar.  

Sensex gainers included IndusInd Bank that jumped 5.41 per cent, Axis Bank increased by 2.06 per cent, Tech Mahindra rose by 1.95 per cent, HDFC gained 1.68 per cent, ICICI Bank surged 1.68 per cent, HCL Technologies strengthened by 1.54 per cent, HDFC Bank inched higher by 1.01 per cent, etc.  

Sensex losers consisted of Nestle India that plunged 1.74 per cent, NTPC slumped by 1.69 per cent, Power Grid fell by 1.02 per cent, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories declined by 0.91 per cent, RIL went down by 0.70 per cent, ONGC decreased by 0.69 per cent, Mahindra & Mahindra weakened by 0.65 per cent, etc.  

Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, Bankex was the biggest gainer, up by 1.41 per cent whereas, the Metal index was the biggest loser, down by 1.32 per cent. BSE IT index was up by 0.65 per cent while BSE Healthcare index declined by 0.30 per cent. BSE Auto index and BSE Realty index fell by 0.19 per cent and 0.23 per cent, respectively.   

In the broader markets, BSE Small-Cap index climbed 0.16 per cent whereas, BSE Mid-Cap index fell by 0.07 per cent.
