Sensex & Nifty make a comeback; HUDCO jumps 7 per cent, OnMobile Global gains 16 per cent, MRF tumbles
After taking a breather of two days, the bulls returned to dominate the domestic equity markets as Sensex gained 222.13 points or 0.43 per cent to settle at 51,531.52 levels while Nifty rose by 66.05 points or 0.43 per cent to close at 15,171.55 levels.
During today's trading session, FMCG, metal, and IT stocks were some of the top gainers while small-cap stocks outperformed. On the other hand, the auto and realty stocks declined.
Snapping a two-day losing streak, the investors focussed on opting for a stock-specific investment approach.
In the global markets, prominent Asian markets observed a holiday on Thursday on various occasions such as Chinese markets remained closed on the occasion of Chinese New Year; Japanese markets observed a holiday on the occasion of National Holiday while South Korean Stock Exchange remained closed due to the Korean New Year holiday.
In the European markets, FTSE 100 and DAX and were trading in green, up by 0.14 per cent and 0.42 per cent, respectively whereas, CAC 40 was down by 0.15 per cent.
In Sensex basket, 16 stocks advanced while 14 stocks declined. Sensex gainers included RIL that zoomed by 4.07 per cent, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries surged 2.62 per cent, Bajaj Finance gained 1.60 per cent, Power Grid increased by 1.59 per cent, Bharti Airtel inched higher by 1.41 per cent, Nestle India went up by 1.31 per cent, HUL rose by 1.19 per cent, etc.
Sensex losers consisted of Titan Company that plunged 2.50 per cent, Larsen & Toubro slumped 1.43 per cent, HDFC Bank fell by 0.70 per cent, ITC declined by 0.53 per cent, ONGC decreased by 0.50 per cent, SBI went down by 0.48 per cent, etc.
Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, the Energy index was the biggest gainer, up by 3.13 per cent while Capital Goods index was the biggest loser, down by 0.97 per cent. BSE Healthcare index gained 0.22 per cent while BSE IT index ended flat.
BSE Small-Cap index surged 1.04 per cent while BSE Mid-Cap index gained 0.45 per cent.
